For a fuller and brighter looking skin, you need to get rid of those dead skin cells. Younger bodies have the natural capacity to shed off dead skin cells and regenerate new ones, but this process of skin regeneration slows down as the body ages.

Exfoliation is the process of getting rid of dead skin cells, a woman in mid thirties are in better need to exfoliate than those who are younger. A glowing skin can be achieved by eliminating excess cells with an exfoliant. You can exfoliate physically with the use of products that you rub on your skin and you rinse off. Or you can exfoliate chemically using products that contain ingredients like; glycolic or lactic add that will melt the glue that holds the old cells to the surface of the skin. Some people are apprehensive in using products that say they contain acids, but acids can either be good or bad depending on how to use them. They can provide refreshed skin when used properly but once they are not rightly formulated, they may cause damage such as scarring and burns.

You can also try using product with antioxidant and pigment-reducers. There are also anti-aging serum and moisturizers that are beneficial to your skin. In the process of exfoliation, the cells under the skin surface is stimulated therefore increasing cell production essential for the increase of collagen production and the elastin fibers responsible for skin elasticity. The benefits from regular exfoliation are instant and a long term one. Exfoliate at least twice a day for a better result. For sensitive skin, you can do this once a day; if the skin reddens, wait another day or two before trying again; your skin will soon develop tolerance to the ingredients and you will be able to exfoliate on a regular basis

There are DIY chemical peels being advertised on TV. Trying on these products is not recommended. Some may be full of harmful chemicals that may cause further damage to the skin. Extreme and powerful exfoliation must be administered and monitored by a license doctor. They do have higher concentrations of chemicals than those products that can be bought over the counter.

A glycolic acid concentration of 8 percent is too much for the face on a daily basis. You can apply a variety of potency on the body, it depends on the thickness and quality of the tissue, a 10 percent concentration on a product might be fine on your chest. Only licensed doctors can administer a single acid in an amount over 10 percent.

Question: Should I stop the exfoliation process during summer?

It is not recommended that you stop exfoliating during summer months; your skin needs to be revitalized all year round. The thing about summer is that you will need an extra protection of sun block lotion to prevent your skin from being damaged by the sun’s UV rays.
